Current Events 1.0

Current events and their representation on social media have a direct effect, moreover they can elicit unpleasant feelings and exacerbate mental illnesses. Right now, the most crucial, influential, and carousing topic remains the act of Russia invading Ukraine. The events that people have been exposed to for 2 months are absolutely unbearable. I think there is no person who would not experience internal discomfort after reading all the terrible and contradictory news.

 Watching War

There is no way not to feel compassion, while trying to find ways to help and make others feel better. However, we should not forget about our own mental health, which is now under an incredible pressure of the news and definitely deserves a little bit more care than it usually does. For example, several academics have proposed a new phenomenon known as "Facebook depression," which is defined as depression that arises when people spend too much time on social media sites like Facebook and subsequently display standard depression symptoms.

Moreover, no one can deny that the amount of stress is only increasing with the constant reading of political news. The constant access to news, opinions on social media, speculation about the future, and global conflicts cause a great deal of stress. Nowadays, we are witnessing a huge number of war related content on social media. Thus, our minds, feelings and inner world become more receptive than usual, because we absorb an incredible amount of exciting and truly depressive information. There are some TIPS  which can help you to overcome difficulties caused by political news.

No matter how hard it is, it is impossible and unnecessary to bypass these events. The only thing we can do for our mental health is to control the flow of information, control the sources and how much time we foresee studying the news. It's natural to be worried, nervous, or agitated from time to time. However, it's equally critical to devote time to self-care and seek treatment if you're suffering from health problems.

  1. I like that you chose to include a very relevant topic into the blog, the war between Russia and Ukraine. I think that most people don’t think about how media can have an impact on our emotions and state of mind. I agree that it can be overwhelming to have so much access; to constantly read things that are mostly negative. I know personally I was listening to the news everyday (I was really bad at keeping up with what was happening in the world), but when the war started happening and that is all that I would hear about it affected my mental health and I had to stop listening to the news every day. I also find the tips you posted to be very helpful.

Hello, great topic! I'm glad someone's talking about it. As for the war in Ukraine, even though the war did not hit me directly, the first days were terrible that my family nor I could even sleep. Following the news, the news started to be very exhausting. After a few days, I said that although it is very unfair (war is simply not fair), we have to take care of ourselves and our mental health. The world is not over for that, and we have no choice but to do nothing. Talking to those affected and helping us as much as possible is a real help. We must not forget about ourselves, so turning off the news from time to time when we find it overwhelming is fine.

  3. Thank you for your blog, a very relevant topic has been raised in it. And very interesting information about Facebook; since Facebook is the topic of a lot of discussions at many official events, it is always good to know what Facebook is trying to do good. I also want to note that this topic as a whole gives food for thought and I want more scientific research to be conducted on the psychological state of people after reading the news about the war; because now for many people, it is very important and is the key to their health and future life
